William C. (Bill) Shorter, age 89 of Clinton, departed this life on Monday, December 19, 2011. He was born September 1, 1922 in Morristown, Tennessee. Bill was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Clinton, served in World War II, and retired from the City of Clinton Police Department in 1983 after serving under several sheriffs with the Anderson County Sheriff's Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Julia Shorter; six brothers and six sisters; daughter, Linda Shorter McKamey and grandson, Danny Chad Crowley.
Survived by loving wife of 65 years, Betty Davis Shorter; daughters, Diane (Steve) Skeens, Teresa (Dan) McBee; son-in-law, Robert McKamey; grandchildren, Bryan (Sue) Walker, Robert Walker, Donna (Sean) Abel, Julie Byrd & fianc� Jason Malady, Chad (Heather) Crowley, Kristi McBee, Scott (Jennifer) McBee; 7 great-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; and special niece, Charlotte (Virgil) Rains.
A special "Thank You" to Dr. Victor Salter and his staff and also the staff of Covenant Homecare Hospice and Tennova Residential Hospice for their care.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 21, 2011 from 5-7PM at the Holley-Gamble Funeral Home with funeral to follow at 7:00PM with Pastor Darryl Taylor and Pastor J. C. Newman officiating.
Interment will be at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens on Thursday, December 22nd at 1:00PM.
