Mr. William Thomas McBryde, 96, of Clinton, TN, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2016. He was born in New Albany, MS, on December 2, 1919, to Thomas and Sylvia McBryde. After attending Mississippi State University and servicing in the U.S. Army for four years, William moved to Oak Ridge, TN, and then to Clinton in 1952. He was an engineer at the Y-12 plant in Oak Ridge until retiring in 1982. William enjoyed gardening, hiking and just puttering around the yard, and was a loving, lifelong and present member of the Memorial United Methodist Church.
Preceded in death by mother of his children, Fran McBryde; son, Tom McBryde; sister, Angeline Knox and grandson-by-marriage, Marcus Payne. Survived by wife, Patsy H. McBryde; daughter, Martha Borthen, of Roanoke, VA; sons, John McBryde (Shannon) of Franklin, TN, Bob McBryde (Cathy) of Gastonia, NC and Kelly McBryde (Lisa) of Hixson, TN; daughter-in-law, Anne McBryde of Nashville; sons-by-marriage, Henry Hedden(Lily) of Knoxville, TN, and Don Hedden ( Susan) of Clinton and daughter-by-marriage, Martha Payne ( Mark) of Clinton, plus six grandsons and one granddaughter. The family is especially grateful for William's caregivers, Cathy Bridges and Mary Rose Phillips.
The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Friday, September 30, 2016 at Memorial United Methodist Church with service to follow at 7 PM. Graveside services will be held Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Grandview Memorial Garden. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of arrangements.
