William Lloyd Carter, age 95, of Clinton, passed away March 30, 2015.
Lloyd was reared on his Grandfather's apple farm in Greenfield, VA, & obtained an early education in a one room church-schoolhouse. Teenage years were spent in Covington, VA. The maternal side of his family is from Newfoundland.

Lloyd attended Georgia Tech & University of Texas for undergraduate & graduate degrees in Chemical Engineering. He met his wife, Elizabeth, in Port Arthur, TX and they moved to Atlanta where he obtained the first Ph.D from Georgia Tech in 1950. Elizabeth was awarded the honorary degree of "Mistress of Patience in Husband Engineering".

Lloyd & Elizabeth moved to Oak Ridge & Clinton to work at X-10, Oak Ridge National Laboratory in 1950. He graduated from the Reactor Technology School in 1957 and retired after 35 years of service. He was a longtime member of the Oak Ridge United Church, Chapel on the Hill.

Lloyd was a dedicated Husband & Father to his family who enjoyed bowling & coaching Little League baseball with his sons; even creating a home garage batting cage. Other hobbies included crossword puzzles, travel, lighthouses and excellent penmanship.

He is preceded in death by parents John & Agnes Carter; son, Kent Carter; brothers, Ralph & Pat Carter. He is survived by wife, Elizabeth Plummer Carter; son, Vance Carter; grandchildren Sarah Elizabeth & Aden Carter.

Very special thanks to caregivers Sandy Foster, who was like a daughter, Whis Harber, Larry Harber, David Whaley & the Clinton Fire Department for the loving attention given to Lloyd & his family.

A Celebration of Life Service & Reception will be held at the Oak Ridge United Church, Chapel on the Hill at 1:00 pm on Friday, April 3rd. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the United Church, 85 Kentucky Ave, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
