Virginia Shoopman Hill, age 94 a lifelong resident of Anderson County died peacefully at her home into the loving arms of Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior, September 30, 2016. Virginia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, mother-in-law, and friend to all who came to know her. Virginia's joy in life was serving and caring for family, friends, and her church. Virginia was a devoted member of Second Baptist Church in Clinton where she taught the youth and an adult ladies Sunday school class until her eyesight began to fail a few years ago.
Virginia left Clinton after graduation to work at Glenn L. Martin aircraft in Baltimore. When jobs became available in East Tennessee with the Manhattan Project she moved back to Anderson County. She worked at Y-12 and when the bomb was dropped on her birthday, August 6, 1945 she learned with the world what the project was about. In 1946 she married Carson Hill, who served in the 3rd Army during World War II with Patton. They raised four children: Betty, Gary, Rob and Marvin. Virginia returned to work at Lakeshore Mental hospital in Knoxville from where she retired, making friends of staff and patients and was very concerned about the needs of the patients and families she came to know and love after the hospital was closed.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Carson Hill; parents, Alonzo and Mary Brown Shoopman.

The family would like to thank Dr. Wendy May and staff of Clinch River Health Care for their loving care as well as many faithful friends this past year.

The family will receive friends 9:30-11:00 am, Wednesday morning, October 5, 2016 at Second Baptist Church in Clinton with a service to follow at 11:00 am with Rev. Mike Thompson officiating.
