Viola L. Gibbons, age 82, passed away at Briarcliff Medical Center early in the morning of January 27, 2015, after a short but intense battle with breast cancer.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents Lee Roy and Dixie Johnson; sister Juanita Mitchell; and brothers Jackie and Billie Ray Johnson. She is survived by her son Mike and wife Janet Gibbons; granddaughters Megan Mcgee and Rachel Gibbons; great grandson Perez Mcgee; sister Betty Wilson; nieces Bobbie Holcome, Anna Ridings, Donna Gross; nephews Barry Wilson and Richard Wilson and numerous grand nieces and nephews.
Viola was retired from University of Tennessee where she worked in statistical analysis at the school of agriculture until 1985. During this time she achieved a sectorial equivalency in math and statistics. In the 1960's and '70's she was very active in the Civil Air Patrol where she achieved the rant of Lt. Colonel and was the Deputy Commander for the State of Tennessee. She then bought Vol Coffee Service where she worked with her son until 2013.
She was a faithful member of Clinton Church of God. Viola enjoyed golf and bowling. She was a faithful mother and grandmother and loved her granddaughters dearly.
The family will receive friends Friday, January 30, 2015 6:00 to 7:00 PM. Memorial service will follow with Rev. Curtis Akers officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Clinton Church of God Building Fund; 635 Hillcrest St. Clinton, TN 37716.
