Obituary

Thomas Lawson, age 81, of Clinton, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2024, with his family by his side. Born on June 21, 1943, Tom lived a full and varied life, marked by his dedication to his career, his love for the open road, and his service to his country.

A proud veteran, Tom served in the United States Navy for ten years, a time in his life that defined his strong sense of duty and independence. After his military service, he built a successful career in the trucking industry, where he spent many years navigating the highways.

In his retirement years, Tom found joy in traveling across the country with his loyal companion, his dog Holly. He was a man who valued his privacy and independence, and he lived life on his own terms.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Lawson, his mother, Opal Jewel Portwood, and his brother, Larry Lawson. He is survived by his sister, Carolyn Portwood, and his five daughters: Judy Lawson, Edwina Sorrells, Rebecca Lawson, Brenda Lawson, and Elizabeth Kelley. He also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Tom's name to the Ben Atchley State Veterans' Home in Knoxville, Tennessee, a cause close to his heart and that of his family.

A memorial service will be held at the East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on September 9th at 2:00pm, 2200 E. Governor John Sevier hwy, Knoxville TN 37920. Tom will be laid to rest with military honors, and his memory will live on with those who knew him in his own unique way. www.holleygamble.com
