Sylvia Brooks, of Clinton, TN passed away suddenly Wednesday, 12-15-10, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her family, and she was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends in need. She worked for 22 years at Oak Ridge National Laboratory after having grown up with parents who worked in the wartime "secret city" of Oak Ridge. She also spent over forty years serving elderly and terminally ill patients as a home health care provider. Her gentle wisdom and inner strength enriched the lives of many of those that she cared for. She continued, expanded, and until recently, expertly managed the real estate rental business that she and her husband started early in their life together. At the time of her death, she was still actively engaged in caring for elderly patients after semi-retiring to Florida. She attended Oak Ridge United Methodist Church. She was a member of The Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks, Oak Ridge Lodge, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Citrus County Aerie.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Lillian Lewis, her husband of 40 years, Golman Brooks, and three brothers, Robert, Roy James Jr. and Clarence
She is survived by her children, Donna Brooks of Knoxville, TN, David Brooks and wife Mary Ann of Knoxville, TN, Judy Brooks Justis and husband Bill of Johnson City, TN, and Mark Brooks of Clinton, TN, grandchildren, Sylvia Hedrick, Dylan Justis, Shelby Lane, Cassandra Stilen, great-grandchildren Teri and Matthew Brown, Trenton Bayless, brothers and sisters, several nieces and nephews, and special friends R.B. Simpson of Oak Ridge, and Pauline Harmon of Jacksonville, Florida.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Sunday, Dec. 19th at Holly-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. Funeral services conducted by her nephew the Rev. Buddy Lewis will be held on Monday, Dec. 20th at 11:00 AM Graveside services will be held immediately after at Anderson County Memorial Gardens in Clinton.
