Andersonville

Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family announces that Susie Barbee, age 82, of  Andersonville, TN, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 29, 2024 at her residence surrounded by family. Susie was deeply devoted to her faith and her family.  Susie grew up in Harold, Kentucky, the daughter of Ernest Akers and Elizabeth Akers King.  She was raised from age 9 by Heavey and Mary Caldwell in Knoxville, Tennessee.  She moved to various duty stations with her husband, George, who served in the U.S. Army.  As a military spouse, she was instrumental in George's success as a Soldier, and gave him support and stood beside him, even in the most difficult times.  After George's retirement from the Army, the family resided in Andersonville, TN.  Susie loved spending time with her family and being a devoted mother to her kids and to the other "kids" that she loved like her own. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when she was needed most, offering support and wisdom.  Later, she loved being "Mamaw" to her eight grandchildren, cooking for all of them, listening to gospel music, and watching her favorite Christian news shows such as 700 Club and her favorite pastors on TV.  Susie was never shy about speaking about her faith and how much she loved Jesus. Susie's favorite Bible verse was Acts 16:31; hearing this as a child when missionaries came to her school. Susie was beautiful inside and out; she will be dearly missed by many.

Susie was preceded in death by her husband, George R. Barbee of Dandridge, TN; parents, Elizabeth Akers King and Ernest Akers of Harold, KY; brother Robert Akers of Harold, KY; sisters, Mary Bell of Detroit, MI, Rooney Bean of Crosslanes, WV and her son James (Jimmy) Barbee of Clayton, NC.
She is survived by her son George (Robbie) Barbee Jr., of Andersonville, TN, and daughters Tammy Morgan and her husband Martin Morgan of Andersonville,TN, and Janie Shaw and her husband Ken Shaw of Mount Pleasant, SC.  Daughter-in-law, Mary Anna Barbee of Lake City, TN. Brother James Akers of Prestonsburg, KY.  Grandchildren: Joshua Morgan, Stephen Morgan, Kayla Barbee Driver, Brandi Barbee Henley, Ashley Shaw, Eli Barbee, Jacob Shaw, & Rachel Barbee. Great Grandchildren, James Driver, Charlotte Driver and Brooks Driver.

The family will receive friends at the Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton on Sunday, December 8, 2024, from 3-5 pm with the memorial service to follow at 5 pm with the Pastor Todd Stinnett officiating. Her interment will be at the East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on
