Scott Daniel Melton, 78, of Clinton passed on to eternity Monday June 24th. He was a lifelong resident of Anderson County and was born and raised in the Belmont Community of Andersonville. After completing high school he moved to Indiana and worked in the steel mills as an apprentice electrician. After earning his journeyman license he went on the road as a construction electrician. In 1975 he took a position as a maintenance electrician for what was then Union Carbide/K-25 in Oak Ridge.
While working there he started a side business selling electrical supplies to local electricians. Shortly after began selling and installing heating and air conditioning systems for friends and neighbors. This business quickly began to grow and in 1985 he took an early retirement from what was then Martin Marietta and went full time into heating and air conditioning. He operated his company, Melton Heating & Air Conditioning, until retiring for health reasons in 2004.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip & Ethel Melton, both of Andersonville, and a sister Nancy Melton. Scott leaves behind his beloved wife and sister in Christ Janella Melton, as well as his children, his eldest son David & wife Teresa of Clinton, his daughter Marilyn of Powell, and his youngest son Tim of Clinton. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Corey, Jason, Crissy and Carmen. He also leaves behind a sister Phyllis and husband Charles Hall, of Knoxville, along with nephews Charles, Tony, and Randy.
Also left behind are beloved stepchildren, Teri and Rob Blesi of Longmont, Colorado, Pamela Soto of Lakeland, Florida, and Debi and Mark Boody of Oak Ridge, Tennessee along with many step grandchildren and great grandchildren
Scott was above all else a faithful Christian and a member of the Church of Christ in Clinton. He was also a faithful friend to all that knew him and a friend and comforter to strangers as well. His unselfish life was expressed by Matthew 25:35-36 " For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me." He loved the gospel of Christ and those who preached it. He was unrelenting and unwavering in sharing his faith with all he came in contact with.
The receiving of friends and family will be held at Holley Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton from 6-8 pm Thursday June 27th with services immediately following at 8pm. Burial will be Friday 10 am at Grandview Cemetery in Clinton. In lieu of flowers those who desire to do are encouraged to donate mission funds in his name and honor to the Church of Christ in Clinton or the Karns Church of Christ in Knoxville.
