Robert (Bob) Manning passed away on September 9 at Oak Ridge Memorial Methodist Hospital at the age of 87.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Manning; son, John Manning; daughter, Linda Harris; son-in-law, Dave Harris; granddaughters, Amanda and Nichol Manning; grandsons, Taylor and Peyton Harris; brother, Charles Manning; and sister, Faye Taylor.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mitchell and Daisy Manning, and his siblings, Odis Manning and Ruth Taylor.
After graduating from Clinton High School in 1957, he attended the University of Tennessee and earned a degree in Business Administration in 1961. After a two-year term of service in the US Army, he continued in the US Army Reserve and received an honorable discharge in 1967. He then attended Oklahoma University and earned a Master of Science in Environmental Science, launching his career with the State of Tennessee Department of Public Health, where he served until retirement in 1997.
Bob lived a life of service to his country, community, and family and has been a lifelong supporter of his beloved hometown of Clinton. Bob was a high school football referee, a member of the Jaycees, a member of the Optimists, where he worked with junior football programs, a long-time member of First Baptist Church Clinton, sat on the Clinton Historical Planning Commission, and sat on the Clinton Planning Commission, where he served for 30 years. He is well loved and will be missed.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Clinton. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. Danny Chisholm officiating.
Following the service, the graveside service will be held at Sunset Cemetery.
