Robert J Abel Jr. of Knoxville TN formerly of Clinton, TN passed away just after his 90th birthday surrounded by his loving family.  He was a loving husband, a wonderful father and father-in-law, one of kind Grandpa, dear brother and a great friend.

Known as Gator by his friends, he was born in Crawford County PA and raised in Cambridge PA.  In high school he was an avid athlete in all sports, football being his favorite.

After graduating from Cambridge Springs high school in 1953 he joined the Marine Corps where he was awarded Outstanding Member of his Platoon. He served 1953 - 1955. He spoke of his time in the Marine Corps often and inspired his grandson to enlist in this prestigious  group of people.  There isn't a place in his home where you did not see his patriotic pledges and how proud he was to have served his Country.

He is survived by his three wonderful daughters and caretakers, Jamie Stratton (Steve) of Pittsford, MI, Hollie Klaus (Edmund) of Knoxville, TN and Keelie Hooks (Chip) of Knoxville, TN; his grandchildren Dr. Kasee Stratton-Gadke (Dr. Daniel) of Starkville, MS,  Tyler Moore (Randynn) of Rapid City, SD and  Dr. Taylor Morgan of Knoxville, TN; Three wonderful great granddaughters Aviana and Adalyn and his newest of 3 weeks Darynn; Two step grandsons Jesse and Hunter; Sister Judy Harmon of Anderson, IN and sister in law Bess Hodge and a host of many friends and family that he cherished.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 wonderful years Kathleen Abel; parents Robert J Abel Sr and Dorothy Abel; Aunts, uncles and cousins.

Robert loved his family and friends deeply. He loved to camp, travel, watch football and root for his favorite team the Pittsburgh Steelers.

No services will be held as per his request. Just remember fondly.
