Raymond Cornelius Carter "Curly", 69, died November 14, 2012 at UT Medical Center surrounded by family and friends.
Ray was born December 30th, 1942 in Anderson County, TN to Mary Overton Carter and Cornelius Carter. He grew up at his family farm and from early on had a love of horses and telling great stories. After his service in the US Air Force, he returned to Clinton, TN and that same "Carter Hill" and continued to create wonderful stories, touch so many hearts, and live life to it fullest.
He was a simple man of dignity, respect, love, and laughter. Always ready with a joke or snarky remark, anyone that met him immediately felt his warmth and welcome arms. He love training his beautiful TN Walking horses, particularly Romeo, and driving his rail buggy with his wife Jo Ann, through the hills of his beloved East Tennessee. He was always there for those he loved and touched the lives of so many. His bright eyes and big smile made so many wonderful memories that will never be forgotten.
He is survived by his wife Jo Ann, mother Mary Overton Carter; sisters, Dianne Walden and husband Buddy, Joyce Dickson and husband Ray, Kathy Reed, Marynell Turnbill; brother, Ronnie and wife Brenda; daughters, Karen and Sharon; sons, Shay and companion Monica, Michael and wife Kathryn; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 4 nephews and 11 nieces.
Services will be held at Holley Gamble Funeral Home Saturday, November 17, 6-8pm. Burial will be held at the Staff Sergeant Cornelius Carter Cemetery, Sunday, November 18, 2pm.
