Phyllis "Anita" Hooks (Milam) Baer, age 65, of Briceville (Braden Flats Community) passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Anita was born November 5, 1951, in Lake City, Tennessee, but grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1980s, she and her daughter moved to the Claxton, Tennessee community. She enjoyed watching her daughter play softball throughout the years, and spending time with all of her nieces and nephews during summer vacations. Anita worked 20+ years with BWXT at the Y-12 plant as an Administrative Assistant. One of her greatest loves was her grandson Connor. She enjoyed spending time with him every chance she got, he lovingly called her Nanny.

She is preceded in death by her parents Jesse and Wilma Hooks. She is survived by her husband Terry W. Baer; daughter, Sarah Quinlan; step-daughters, Stephanie Baer, and Jessica Crossman; step-sons: Michael Baer and wife Tanya, Russell Baer and wife Tammy, Jonathan Baer and wife Brooke, and Joshua Baer and wife Katrina; sister, Gwen McNabb and husband Danny; brother, Thomas Hooks and wife Susie; grandson, Connor Quinlan; and 11 step-grandchildren; nieces: Tracey Varner and husband Ray; Heather Hooks and fiancé Amos Phillips; Melanie Wesolowski and husband Edward; Krissy Hooks and fiancé Drew Stromack; nephews: Scott McNabb and wife Toni; Thomas Hooks, Jr.; great-nieces: Lindsey Varner, Jessica Cinnamon, Alesha Varner and Sierra Stromack; great-nephews: Gabriel McNabb, and Joey Hooks; great-great nephew, Branson Cox. Anita had many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends that loved her dearly.

The family will receive friends at the Holley-Gamble Funeral home in Rocky Top on Friday May 19, 2017 at 5PM-7PM with the funeral service to follow at 7PM with the Rev. Tom Byrge officiating. Burial will be at the Indian Bluff Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday May 20, 2017 at 11AM.
