Michael Leon Waters of Knoxville, TN passed away on Nov.12, 2013. He was born in Oak Ridge, TN, Oct.8, 1952.
Mike was of the Methodist faith, and was a life-long member of St. Mark Methodist Church of Clinton.
He is preceded in death by parents Leon and Sara Waters, maternal grandparents Mildred and William Daniel, and paternal grandparents Henry and Alta Waters.
Those left to cherish Mike's memory include his sister and her husband, Sandra and Bryan Warden of Tazewell, VA; his brother and his wife, Mitch and Kathy Waters of Clinton; special friend and companion, Arlene Goldstine of Knoxville; Aunts Maxine Finney of Nashville, Kitty Watson of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Bettye Kellum of Monticello, Arkansas; Uncle B.J. Waters of Albuquerque, New Mexico; niece, Jessica Blalock; nephew, Christopher Waters; numerous cousins, many fellow bridge players and friends, and fellow avid Tennessee Vols fans like himself.
After graduating from Clinton High School, he attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, completing both Bachelor's and Master's degree. He was Activities Director at Roane State Community College, worked at the Knoxville Journal as a sports writer, worked several years for Rocky Top Magazine and also served as official scorekeeper of the UT Vols baseball team for years. An accomplished bridge player, Mike organized bridge tournaments and activities in Deane Hill Recreation Center in Knoxville and participated in numerous bridge tournaments.
The family will receive friends Friday, November 15th from 12-2PM at Holley Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. A graveside service will follow with Rev. John Anderson officiating at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Parkinson's Association of Knoxville or to St. Mark United Methodist Church in Clinton.
