Mary Florence Sharp, age 93 of Clinton, Tennessee, passed away at Tennova North Hospital, Knoxville, TN, on November 15, 2016. She was born January 29, 1923 on a farm in Powell, TN and grew up during the Great Depression. As she grew up she learned to ride on the family pony, to be a good cook, make her own and family members' clothes, and learn all her 4-H skills. Her family moved to Andersonville and Mary Florence graduated from Norris High School. She met her first husband, Ray "Buck" Gilbreath, who she knew and dated during high school. When World War II began, Ray joined the Army Air Corps and was sent to Idaho for pilot training. Mary Florence worked at various jobs, but ended up taking a train to Boise, Idaho, where she and Ray married. After pilot training Ray was assigned to England where he was killed in action over The Netherlands on March 6, 1944. Their daughter, Pamela was born that May. After World War II, Mary Florence dated and married Roger Calvin Sharp, an Army Veteran of World War II. They had known each other in High School and Roger, Ray, and Mary Florence had all been good friends. Roger and Mary Florence had two boys, Richard and Randall. Mary Florence was a member of the First Baptist Church, Timely Topics Club, and the Garden Club. She and Roger travelled widely and attended the annual National meetings of the Purple Heart Association and the 35th Infantry Division Association. After High School, she attended business school and held various jobs to help support her family. She is a cousin of John Rice Irwin and related to numerous Sharps throughout Tennessee and the nation. Both her maiden and married names were Sharp. She was preceded in death by her father, William Condra Sharp, Sr., her mother, Lula Belle Irwin Sharp, her brother, William Condra (WC) Sharp, Jr., and her husbands, Ray "Buck" Gilbreath and Roger Calvin Sharp. She is survived by her brother, Hubert Paris Sharp and wife Shirley of Knoxville; daughter, Pamela Gilbreath Kelly and husband Richard Allan Kelly of Long Beach, CA; sons Richard Calvin Sharp and wife Moetki of Canton, GA, and Randall Roger Sharp and fiancée Judy Hensley of Clinton, TN; her grandchildren: Shannon Sharp Penrod and husband Daniel Penrod of Ball Ground, GA, Eric Richard Kelly of Long Beach, CA, Nicholas Gibbs Sharp and wife Aly of Canton, GA, Rachel Sharp Yastro and husband Ryan Yastro of Cumming, GA, and Lindsey Sharp Dunford and husband Brandon Dunford of Powell, TN; 13 great grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 20, 2016 from 1:30 to 2:30 pm with funeral services following at 2:30 pm at Holley Gamble Funeral Home at 621 S. Charles G. Seivers Boulevard, Clinton, TN with Pastor Stan Elliott officiating. The Graveside Service will take place immediately after the funeral at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens, Edgemoor Road (Highway 170) in Claxton.
