Mary Kate Phillips, Granny as most of us called her, of Norris TN passed away peacefully on January 25th 2011. Granny was not just a name used by her grandchildren but it was her calling. She was there for all that knew her with the consistency and wisdom we all need. Granny was a loving wife, a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and a friend to all that knew her. She is survived by her husband of 66 years Cork Phillips, Son and Daughter In-law Larry and Anna Phillips, Grandson and wife Todd and Kristin Phillips, Great Grandchildren Mason and Jaycee Phillips, and a long list of close friends who were all near and dear to her. Granny had a thirst for life and was a seamstress of sorts. Her abilities to make and mend went well beyond the fabrics and yarns used to prepare her crafts. Her best was received by those who knew and loved her - for whom she mended broken seams in our lives, helped prepare us for life's new patterns and sometimes reminding us that our pants were too big. Granny was the stern and loving hand that guided and comforted all. As she has passed into eternal life we can all remember her by the smell of a campfire, the cheers of a ball game, tales of Africa and beyond, the first taste of Christmas candy each year, gathering of friends and family and most of all smiles and laughter. These were her life's legacy. A grave side service will be held at Norris Memorial Gardens at 2:00pm Saturday January 29th and the Celebration of Her Life will immediately follow at the St. Francis Episcopal Church, Norris TN.
