Mary Ellen Burnett, age 92, of Clinton passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014. She was born in Athens, TN to the late Emily and Robert T. Land. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Clinton since 1945 where she taught Sunday school for many years and was also a member of the XYZ group. Mary was the past president and member of Timely Topics, taught Red Cross swimming lessons, active in the CUB Scouts, active in PTA, serving as room mother during her children's elementary school years. She loved to work in her flower and vegetable gardens, feeding and observing birds and nature, walking, reading, particularly her bible, and spending time with her friends and loved ones. Preceded in death by husband, Leo Burnett; brother, Robert T. Land and sister, Madlyne Pirtle.

The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Holley Gamble Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be 10:00 am Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Clinton with Rev. Terry Baker and Rev. Stan Elliott officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Baptist Church, c/o XYZ Memorial Fund, P.O.
