Mary Bridges of Clinton went to her Heavenly reward on Thursday, February 18, 2016 She was born August 5, 1920, the second of eight girls in the Robbins family. She worked on the Manhattan Project during WWII. She also was employed at Clinton Jewelers and the University of Tennessee. Mrs. Bridges was especially proud of 30 years of service with the Senior Nutrition Program in Anderson County for which she received the Anderson County Community Spirit Award in 2008.
Mary Bridges was mother to Jerry (Lottie) Bridges of Andersonville and Mary Ruth (Charles) Voyles of Rocky Top. She had five grandchildren: Mark (April) Voyles of Kentucky, Jim (Tawny) Voyles of Kansas, John Voyles of Knoxville, Cheri (Don) Floyd of Papua New Guinea, and Cynthia Bridges of Knoxville. Her four great grandchildren are Skye Voyles, and Stephen, William, and Jonathan Floyd.
She was preceded in death by Hamilton Bridges, her husband of 70 years. Also preceding her in death were parents Jerome and Jemima Robbins and seven sisters: Esther, Ruth, Ada, Margie, Claudia, Edith, Bonnie. She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews, as well as a host of friends and neighbors.
The family expresses their thanks to her dedicated home caregivers and to the caring staff at Summit View of Rocky Top. Special thanks goes to her favorite nurse, Pam Cannon, affectionately known as "Nurse Can."
The family will receive friends Sunday, February 21, from 3:00 - 5:00 pm at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. The funeral service will follow at 5:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Bobby Metcalf of Farmer's Grove Baptist Church where Mrs. Bridges was a long-time member. Assisting will be former pastor Rev. Joe Copeland. Interment will be in Sunset Cemetery, Clinton, at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 22. Holley Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of all arrangements. holleygamble.com
