ANDERSONVILLE

Obituary

Mary Ann Hutson Longmire, 92, of Andersonville, passed peacefully on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.  She was born to Reuben and Mary Wallace Hutson on October 10, 1932, in Andersonville.  Mary Ann was a member of Andersonville United Methodist Church for over 65 years, where she served in numerous positions throughout the years. After graduating from Norris High School in 1950, she began working at the Atomic Energy Commission in Oak Ridge.  On August 10, 1956, she married Hobert Longmire. When her first child was born, she elected to stay home and become a full-time mother and farm wife.

As a farm wife, Mary Ann helped however and whenever she was needed, often driving a tractor in the hayfields or working with the tobacco crops.  She was skilled in sewing, cooking, quilting, knitting, and crocheting.  Hundreds of beautifully crocheted Christmas ornaments made with love adorn trees throughout Tennessee and beyond. Almost every day she would ask, "Is there a ballgame on?" hoping to see the Vols or Lady Vols or her beloved Braves. She attended many University of Tennessee games and even made it to the 1996 World Series in Atlanta.  For the past several years the baseball games were played in her front yard on family dinner nights when she enjoyed spending the evening with family and friends who had become family.

She was the perfect mother and was extremely proud of her children, Rosemary and Mark.  In addition to loving and providing for them every day, she also supported them by attending piano recitals, baseball games, and dirt track races. Her family grew when Rosemary married Bobby and when Mark married Betsy.  She loved them like her own, and they loved her back.  Her granddaughters, MaryKate and Mollie, were her greatest joy. She loved them unconditionally and beamed when discussing their academic and athletic achievements.  Many hours were spent cheering them on as they competed in soccer, basketball, cross country and track.

Survivors include, daughter, Rosemary Archer; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Betsy Longmire; granddaughters MaryKate Longmire and Mollie Fox and husband, Andy Fox; sister-in-law, Mary Helen Longmire; special cousin, JoAnn Porter; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
