Mark Daniel Gateley, age 55 of Clinton, TN, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014 after an extended illness. Mr. Gateley is preceded in death by his father, Huston Gateley, and sister, Miriam Gateley.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Julie Gateley; son, Jesse, and daughter, Hannah; mother, Vivian Gateley, brother Tim Gateley, both of Huntingdon, TN, and brother Jonathan Gateley, of Humboldt, TN; as well as nieces, nephews and great-nieces.
Mr. Gateley began his career teaching vocational agriculture in Kenton, TN, where he received the Honorary Chapter Farmer award from the Kenton FFA. He later taught vocational agriculture at Martin Westview High School in Martin, TN, where he helped charter a local chapter of the FFA Alumni and received the Teacher of the Year Award from the Tennessee Agriculture Teachers Association. In 1992 he relocated to Anderson County to begin work as a 4-H agent for the University of Tennessee. Mr. Gateley went on to work in the state 4-H office where he led a successful fundraising campaign for the Tennessee 4-H Foundation, serving as Executive Director until his retirement. He served on the National Board of Directors of Epsilon Sigma Phi and was a member of the Tennessee 4-H Alumni. He was a member of the Oak Ridge church of Christ.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given to the Tennessee 4-H Foundation, 205 Morgan Hall, 2621 Morgan Circle, Knoxville, TN 37996-4510; or to the Tennessee FFA, Box 5034, Cookeville, TN 38505-0001.
Graveside services for Mr. Gateley will be 1:00 PM, Monday, June 9, 2014 at the Twin Oaks Community Cemetery in Huntingdon, TN. Holley Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of all arrangements. holleygamblefh.com
