Obituary

CLINTON – Marilyn "Tut" Portwood, age 94 passed peacefully at NHC Healthcare Oak Ridge May 29, 2025.  She loved the Lord and spent her life serving the Lord.  She was a faithful member of South Clinton Baptist Church for over 60 years. Marilyn loved her church family and Dr Roger Pugh.  In her early days she taught Sunday school and was active in the Church choir.  There were so many neighbors and friends who loved on Marilyn well, but especially those members of South Clinton Baptist Church.

Marilyn was retired from EG&G Instruments as an electronics' inspector.  She enjoyed gardening, swimming and travel throughout her life

She is preceded in death by her husband Earl Portwood; mother, Elizabeth Dew and father Jake Dew; brothers Joe and Bob Dew;  sisters Edith Queener, Louis Wallace and Naomi Dew.  She is survived by her children Angela (Scott) Fleming of Clinton and Sharon (Sam) Moore of Morristown.  She is also survived by her grandsons Matthew (Carrie) and Russell (Jill), many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  The special care and love that her niece Lana Woods showed her and the many visits and trips they enjoyed together was especially precious to Marilyn.

The family held a graveside service at Grandview Memorial Garden.  Officiating the graveside service was Dr Roger Pugh of South Clinton Baptist Church

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the ladies, Dona, Jess, McKeena, Amber and Pam for their exceptional loving and compassionate care for Marilyn; NHC nurses and staff; Caris Healthcare for their compassionate caring and guidance; for Marilyn's special friend at NHC, Effie who cared for her; and her close neighbor Eunice who fed her and the ladies with wonderful cooking from her kitchen.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to South Clinton Baptist Church, 1000 Clinch Ave Clinton TN 37716. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton was in charge of arrangements. holleygamble.com
