BLACKWOOD, LLOYD CYLE - age 97 of Knoxville passed away Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Tennova Residential Hospice. He was a long time member of the Sinking Springs United Methodist Church, where he had many friends and was often asked to perform sermons when the pastor was out of town. He was a member of the Steamfitter's Union for over 70 years first as part of Local 102 out of Knoxville and then out of Nashville Local 572. He was proud of his working life that included constructing the X10, K25 and Y12 facilities in Oak Ridge during World War II, many years at the Dupont plant in Old Hickory and supervising craft in the construction of 2 nuclear plants in Ohio. He finished his career in 1990 at age 73 by managing the installation of the heating and cooling equipment and piping for the refurbishment of Ellis Island in New York City. He loved Alabama football and coached his sons in little league baseball. After he retired, he enjoyed gardening, cooking, talking politics and serving his church. Preceded in death by his parents John Henry and Emily Blackwood; brothers James and Paul; sisters Era, Ina, Billie and Ruth; and his son James Edward. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara; sons Lloyd Jr., Dennis and John; daughters Diane Fergerson and Patricia West; sister Emily Baird; 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to the Sinking Springs United Methodist Church in Clinton or the Tennova Residential Hospice center in Knoxville. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. Sunday, January 18th at Holley Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with a funeral service to follow at 4:00 P.M.
