Lin Chilcoat of the Marlow community in Clinton passed away suddenly at her home on Monday, February 16. She was 72. She is survived by her daughter, Shannon Chilcoat and her partner, Erik Bradford of Oak Ridge. She also leaves behind a former student she loved like a son, Aaron Oliver and his wife, Lucy of Chattanooga.

A graduate of Indiana University with a B.S. in Education, Lin taught elementary school for 30 years, primarily with Oak Ridge Schools. After her retirement in 1994, she began traveling the world, visiting Africa, Europe, Central America, Alaska, and South America, including the Galapagos Islands. Over the last 15 years, Lin had devoted herself to volunteerism, donating her time and boundless energy to numerous organizations. At the time of her death, she was Assistant Director of Emergency Management for Anderson County, Administrative Assistant for the Anderson County Rescue Squad, a long-standing support member of the Marlow Volunteer Fire Department, and a volunteer with many other organizations. She served on the Board of Directors for Marlow Volunteer Fire Department and the Anderson County Rescue Squad. She was named a 2013 Humanitarian Hero by the Oak Ridge Chapter of the Red Cross, and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Marlow Volunteer Fire Department in 2014.

A celebration of Lin's life will be held on Sunday, March 8, at the Clinton Community Center, 101 S. Hicks St., in Clinton. The family will host a casual-attire reception for friends from 2-4pm, with friends and family sharing remembrances beginning at 4pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Marlow Volunteer Fire Department, 1019 Oliver Springs Hwy., Clinton, TN 37716.
