Kenneth Glenn Overstreet, Jr or “Ken” as most knew him, passed away at home surrounded by his family on June 7, 2026, in Clinton, TN. He was 81 years old.

He was preceded in death by his parents as well as brothers Richard and Wayne Overstreet and sister Shirley Hobbs. He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 60 years, Susan of Clinton; daughters Sherri Anderson (Joe) of Powell and Cynthia Miller (Greg) of Clinton; grandchildren Riley Miller (Sydney) of Lenoir City, Kenzie Pratt (Isaac) of Powell, Matthew Anderson (Sydney) of Corryton, Shane Abercrombie (Daniel) of Anderson, SC, and Jenna Anderson of Powell; as well as great-grandchildren Wesley and Elliott Miller and Lincoln Pratt; and sisters Patricia Pollock of San Antonio, TX and Debbie Yeager of Udahl, KS.

Ken was born in 1945 in San Antonio, TX and spent much of his early years there and in Germany. He graduated from Sam Houston High School in San Antonio, TX in 1965 and answered the call to serve in the U.S. Army the same year. While stationed at Ft. Devins, he met Susan, a nursing student, while both were on a double date with other people. They quickly righted the wrong and were married in Susan’s hometown of West Brookfield, MA in 1966. He served a tour in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal as a testament to his courage and dedication. Ken was as intelligent as he was intense, and as fiercely loyal as he was funny. His personality was undoubtedly a biproduct of his career in counterintelligence. He retired from the Army at Ft. Meade, MD in 1987 as a CW-2 and moved his family to Tennessee to embark on a new chapter at Martin Marietta/Y12 where he worked until his retirement in 2003. After retirement, he became a very involved grandpa, spoiling and teaching life skills to his grandkids. They loved him for the time he spent and the lessons he taught, as much as ice cream he was likely to treat them to.

Ken was multi-talented. He had a lifelong passion for photography, and his cameras were always close by. He captured thousands of family events and would always show up to take pictures for anyone who asked. Known as a jack of all trades, Ken could fix just about anything and was generous in sharing those skills. You couldn’t mention a project without being ready to get to work, as he was likely to show up ready to get started. He enjoyed making and sharing friendship bread and was known for the arsenal of jokes he always had on the ready. Ken’s life was a testament to integrity, service, and loyalty, and he will be dearly missed by those who loved him.

The family will receive friends at Holley Gamble Funeral Home on Thursday, June 11 from 4 to 6 pm. A funeral service with full military honors will follow on Friday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ken’s memory to your favorite charity.
