Joyce Annette (Hackney) Snyder, age 80, of Heiskell, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Tennova North. She was born September 11, 1945, in Heiskell, to the late Edward Aaron Hackney and Maud Ema Lee Isibel Hackney.
Joyce was a devoted Christian and faithful member of Wolfe Valley Baptist Church in Heiskell, where she had attended since childhood. Even before the church was built, she held services in her home.
Joyce worked for Levi’s in Powell until they forced retirement when they relocated out of the US. After she retired, she enjoyed making artificial floral arrangements as gifts and for grave memorials. She loved her roses in her yard, Gaither family music, and Elvis.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur “Bill” Snyder Sr; Sisters, Wanda Garner and husband James, and Loretta Dew and husband Boots; brothers, Bobby, Tommy, Hugh and Buck Hackney; sister-in-law, Minnie Hackney; brothers-in-law, Eddie Bills, Harry Burnette and Roger Giles; and great-grandson, Liam Christopher Lloyd.
Joyce is survived by her children: son, Jack Carden; Daughter, Judy Sawyer; Judy’s children, Justin (Rose) Cook, Megan (Ranall) Lloyd, Jordan Cook and Julie Carter. Great-grandchildren, Adalyn Carter, Archer Cook, Ireland and Hunter Lloyd; Terri Woodward and son Hudson. Stepchildren, Wilbur “Jr.” Snyder (Regina), Cindy (Jeff) Sovastion, John (Terri) Snyder and their children. sisters, Katherine Bills and Debria Giles; and sister-in-law, Rosetta Hackney; and a host of nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends.
The family will receive friends at Holley Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton, TN on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, from 5-7 PM. A funeral service honoring her life will follow in the chapel at 7 PM. The graveside service will be on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 11 AM at Oak Ridge Memorial Gardens in Oak Ridge, TN, with her grandson, Jordan Cook, officiating.
