Obituary

Joseph Henry Painter, Clinton Tennessee
October 19, 1942 - June 9, 2014
Joseph "Joe" Henry Painter, husband of Sandra Kay Painter, passed away on the afternoon of Monday, June 9th. Joe was born to a farm family in Canal Winchester, Ohio. He entered the Air Force in 1961, joining the 3rd Ind Hq 305th Cmbt Spt Gp and earning an honorable discharge. Joe learned the sheet metal skills he would carry throughout his life.
Joseph lived across the US, including Ohio and Florida. He moved with his family from Redlands, CA to the Clinton area in 1992. Joseph was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers International Association, and transferred to the Local 5. He was very proud when three of his children, Joseph Albert, Amanda Kay and George Franklin, followed his footsteps into the Local 5. Joseph was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Joseph had a variety of hobbies and interests, including photography and motorcycle riding in his younger years. He had a deep interest in the world, and never stopped educating himself. Joe could carry on a conversation with nearly anyone about anything, and loved to work in the many scriptures he knew by heart. He had a large collection of books, but the Bible was his most read. Joe was a wonderful grandfather, and all of his grandchildren will have many great memories of the time they spent talking and relaxing with "Papaw". In retirement, Joe liked to puff on a cigar and gaze at the sky, talking and thinking about the life he had led. Joe always made time for his children, and worked hard to set a good example for them. He was a loving father and husband.
Much of the family resides in the Clinton area. Joseph is survived by his wife, Sandra "Sandy" Painter; his mother, Elizabeth Irene Schwenter (Rancho Cucamonga, CA); uncle Robert Worley (Columbus, OH); daughters LaDonna Rae White and Amanda Kay Painter; son George Franklin Painter; grandsons Brandon Jennings White, Nolan Alexander Painter, Benjamin Dallas Finney, Robert Leland Finney; granddaughters Kayla Jeane Rector and Alexandria Elizabeth Painter; great-grandson Grayson Scott Rector; great-granddaughters Jordan Marissa Rector and Abigail Mae White. Joseph had a large extended family, some residing in Ohio, and a large network of "family of the heart" built over the years.
Joseph is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Neal Painter (Canal Winchester, OH); stepfather Lt. Cmdr. George Schwenter (Rancho Cucamonga,CA); daughter, Susan Beth Painter (Kokomo, IN); and son Joseph Albert Painter (Clinton, TN).
