Joseph David "J.D." Nelson, 97, of Clinton, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 25th, 2026. J.D. was a retired carpenter who enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading, cooking, playing the banjo, planting a garden every year, and telling stories (a few of which were true). He never met a stranger and made friends everywhere he went.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Wanda Nelson; brothers Everette, Cleo, Henson, Archie; daughter Susie Kirk; son Randy Nelson; and son-in-law Perry Kirk.

J.D. is survived by his daughters - Judy Nelson, and Sandy Braden (Neal); grandchildren - Kara Carmack (Jamie), Joshua Nelson (Samantha), Jordan Braden (Ashley), John Nelson (Sarah), Chandler Braden (Kendall), James Nelson (Brianna), and Gavin Braden (Kenzie); great grandchildren - Jordan, Briley, Dylan, Emilee, Kayleigh, Caden, Kasen, Eleanor, Cason, Carter and Lylah; brother Estel Nelson (Shirley), sister-in-laws Doris Webber and Betty Laurendine; an abundance of nieces and nephews, and favorite furry companions, Waylon and Panther.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Holley Gamble Funeral Home.
