John Paul Meredith, "Paul", a resident of Clinton, went to be with the Lord on June 26, 2014 at Methodist Medical Center. Paul was born in the Walnut Grove Community of Campbell County to parents Oliver F. and Nell Lynch Meredith. Paul and his family lived in the Walnut Grove Community until the construction of Norris Dam displaced them and they moved to Andersonville where several of his relatives still live. Paul graduated from Norris High School and was soon drafted into Army as WWII escalated. He served as a tank gunner and most of his service time was in the European Theatre, primarily in Belgium. Paul received three Purple Hearts for combat wounds. After service Paul returned to Clinton where he met and married his wife, the former Reva Jane Butler. Paul's entire adult life was spent in Clinton. Paul worked for several local firms before starting his career with the Atomic Energy Commission, now the U.S. Department of Energy. Paul was a supervisor in the Technical Information Center, now known as the Office of Scientific and Technical Information. Paul retired from DOE with 37 years of service. Paul and his family worshiped at Black Oak Baptist Church for many years and later at South Clinton Baptist Church. Paul was a wonderful grandfather and great grandfather, spending numerous hours with his "special kids" particularly in "hauling around" his granddaughters when they were young. Paul was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Reva Butler Meredith; parents, Oliver F. and Nell Lynch Meredith; twin sister, Pauline (Polly) (Bill) Jones; brother, Robert S. (Bob) Meredith, twin infant brothers, Claude and Clyde Meredith; sisters in-law, Thelma Reaves (Sam), Alma Jean Meredith (Bob); brothers in-law, Ted White (Doran), Sam Reaves (Thelma), William (Bill) Jones (Polly), and Sam Davis (Roberta). Paul leaves behind devoted companion, Ruby L. Reed; son, John and Charlene; sisters, Roberta (Sam) Davis and Doran (Ted) White; granddaughters, Lauren Meredith and Stephanie Meredith; great grandchildren, Aeneas Halouma and Isis Cobb; former daughter-in-law, JoEllen Meredith. He also leaves five nephews and eleven nieces. Additionally, Paul leaves behind several people that he developed "special" relationships with, Ruby's niece, Kaye and her husband Michael Gonzales, Ruby's great nephew Zain Sheikh, Dolly Foster, Ross Blevins, Jimmy and Ryan Humphrey, Lizzy and Meredith Gafford, Stephanie Simmons, Michelle, Rosie, Ace, and Anton Crawford and Erica Moon. At Paul's request, there will not be a public viewing or receiving of friends. Graveside service will be at Norris Memorial Gardens at 2:00PM Monday, June 30, 2014 and will be conducted by the Rev. Perry Duncan. Pall Bearers will be Bill Alley, Shannon Alley, Sherrill Cook, Jimmy Humphrey, Eddie McGhee, and Zain Sheikh. Honorary Pall Bearers will be Jerry Martin and Phil Ayers.
