John Sherwood Greene, age 81 of Clinton, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 10, 2025.

Although born in West Palm Beach, Florida, John was raised in Kentucky before moving to Tennessee. A true Kentuckian, he was a devoted fan and follower of University of Kentucky sports. His love for sports lead to a decision to coach Clinton little league baseball in years past. John appreciated the great outdoors where he found joy in hunting, fishing, and simply basking in the beauty of God's creation. His pride in his home was evident in the immaculate yard he maintained. John built a fishpond in his backyard and he enjoyed sitting on the porch admiring the pond and watching birds ever sense.

After dedicating 34 years to his career as a Safety Engineer at Y-12, John continued to work part-time at Jefferson Compounding in Oak Ridge, a family business owned by his brother, Jack. Above all, he had a personal relationship with his Lord and Savior. A faithful Man of God and a beloved member of First Baptist Church in Clinton.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Sherwood and Lula Greene and son, John Kevin Greene.

He will be deeply missed by his wife of 60 years, Iris "Cookie" Greene; son, Keith Sherwood Greene; brother, Jack Greene and wife Connie; sister, Patricia Harvey and husband Tripp; granddaddy to: John Sherwood Greene, Parker Jordan Greene, and Logan Reece Greene; daughters-in-law, Shanda Greene; sister-in-law, Lori Patterson (Patrick).

Receiving of Friends will be from 5-7 pm on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at Holley Gamble Funeral Home. At 7 pm, Associate Pastor Vicki Violet will conduct a Memorial Service.
