Joanne Duke Thomas passed away after a fall on April 11, 2013.
She was married to Jesse Thomas, who preceded her in death.
They have two daughters, Kim Thomas and Jess Anne Cole. She will also be missed by her son-in-law John Cole and grandchildren Jessie Picarella, Joey Sparks, Johnie Drew and Jordan Thomas. She had eight great grandchildren. Her favorite Sunday activity was holding the newest baby and watching the older great grandchildren play.
Joanne was born on February 11, 1934 to Nelle and Oliver Duke. She was the first of six children, Gene Duke, Danny Duke, Buddy Duke, Jerry Duke and Norma Justice.
Joanne was very proud to have been an Anderson County School teacher at Claxton Elementary. She taught kindergarten for many years. She loved being the first teacher in a child's life and helping them discover reading.
Joanne had a special strength for overcoming life challenges. She took care of her husband during a long illness and overcame personal health issues. She drew strength from her daily hour of Bible reading and devotion time, something she never missed. She donated to many charities in order to help others overcome challenges.
Graveside services will be Sunday, April 14th at 2PM at Virtue Cemetery in Farragut for family and friends. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. www.holleygamblefh.com
