Jean Marie Carlson Neumann Peters, "Granny" 82, of Heiskell TN passed away on March 1, 2011 surrounded by her family at Norris Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was preceded in death by parents David and Margaret Broman Carlson, aunt Olga Broman, sister-in-law Irene Carlson, sister Margaret Bowerman Mckenna, husbands Paul D. Neumann and Ben H. Peters.
She is survived by sons Paul "Skip" and wife Marty Neumann, David and wife Linda Neumann, Mark Neumann and wife Phyllis Southerland; daughter Linda and husband Dwight Walker; brother David Carlson and sister Ruby Smith; granddaughters Amy Robbins, Gretchen Harrison, Erin Hermann and Shannon Susco; grandsons Eric, Jeremy and Andy Neumann; great-grandchildren Chelsee and Sarah Robbins, Brandon, Jackie, Matthew Neumann, Luke, Kaylee and Jacob Harrison, Josh Bedford and Annie Susco.

Granny was born in Duluth MN on 12/28/1928 and later moved to NY with husband and family, eventually relocating to Anderson County in 1957. Granny was a Sunday school teacher, youth leader and choir member at Norris Methodist Church, a Girl Scout leader, an avid supporter of the Norris Area Animal Concern and National Humane Society. She had a passion for children and sponsored numerous families through the Christian Children's Fund. Granny also enjoyed spending time with family, playing the organ and piano, gardening, sewing, needlework and was a skilled craftsman. She owned and operated Granny's Corner Cupboard, which allowed her to share a love of people, Appalachian folk toys and demonstrating her crafts at the annual Museum of Appalachia's Fall Festival.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Thomas Daugherty, Kim Dudley and Fresenius Dialysis of Powell, Anderson County EMS and Norris Health and Rehab Center for the kindness and loving care provided during Granny's last few months. Granny will be laid to rest a Norris Memorial Gardens on Friday March 4, 2011 at 11am. All family and friends welcome. In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family requests that donations be made to Children's Christian Fund or the local Humane Society.
