Janet Pace Holmes, born June 25, 1933, of Knoxville, died on Wednesday, April 3 at Tennova Residential Hospice in the Halls community after loving visits with her children and grandchildren.

She was the daughter of the late Chester Ray Pace and the late Glenna Seeber Pace of Clinton. Brought up in the Christian faith as a member of First Baptist Church in Clinton, she sang and played piano in the church from an early age. She was a chorus member and percussionist, clarinetist, and drum major in the Clinton Senior High School Band. A beauty queen in her college years, she graduated with a major in voice and music from Wesleyan Conservatory in Macon, Georgia, where she also enjoyed acting on stage.

Family members recall reveling in her masterful ability to play the piano and sing at holidays and other special gatherings. In the 1980s, she sang soprano as a member of the Knoxville Choral Society with a favorite aunt, the late Adeline Seeber (Mrs. Clifford Seeber) of Forest Hills Blvd. in Knoxville.

The former wife of Jerry Hartwell Holmes of McRae, GA, she was a homemaker and mother of two children, Renee and Pace. During the 1970s and 1980s, she worked at Oak Ridge Hospital, the Anderson County Court House, and the Tennessee Department of Human Services in Clinton and Knoxville. For the past 25 years, she led a secluded lifestyle as a resident of Knoxville.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Chester Ray Pace and Glenna Seeber Pace. She is survived by a daughter, Michelle Renee Holmes Anderson, and son-in-law, Stewart Anderson, of Tellico Village in Loudon, Tennessee; a son, Griffin Pace Holmes, and daughter-in-law, Jessica Holmes, of Raleigh, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Matthew Campbell Kent and his wife Crystal Kent of Orlando, FL; Melissa Renee Kent of Marysville, OH; and Mary-Alison Kent of Franklin, TN; a step-grandson, Trevor Thompson, of Raleigh, NC; a great-granddaughter, Olivia Harlowe Kent, and two step-great-grandsons, Bradley and Jakob Jenkins, all of Orlando, FL; and a special cousin, Robert Lynn Seeber and his wife, Willie Seeber, of Tellico Village in Loudon.

Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of arrangements. A graveside service will take place at noon Saturday, April 6 at Sunset Cemetery in Clinton with Rev. Rhonda Blevins officiating.
