James Carlton Dyer, 80 of Rocky Top, Tennessee passed away peacefully at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge on Thursday, July 21st, 2016. Jim was born on October 2, 1935, in Jackson, Tennessee to Carter and Robbye Dyer. He always loved Jackson and still has many special friends there. After moving to East Tennessee in 1982, he often complained that he was 'never able to find good bar b que!'
He moved to East Tennessee because it was the home of his wife Linda Gale (Foust) Dyer. They were married on January 10, 1976 and had two daughters Leigh (Dyer) Long and Jill Dyer. He worked as a truck salesman before going on to own an over the road trucking company calledl J&S Cartage. He enjoyed his work very much, but retired in 2008 to focus on his favorite past time, which was spending time on his houseboat on Norris Lake. He had many wonderful times with great friends at Sequoyah Marina and we believe he was happiest while he was there.
He is survived by his daughter Leigh (Dyer) Long, son-in-law Bruce and grandchildren Harper and Henry Long. He is also survived by his younger daughter Jill Dyer.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Linda Gail (Foust) Dyer, Parents: Carter and Robbye Dyer, and brother: Charles N. Dyer.

His family will receive friends at Main Street Baptist Church in Rocky Top on Saturday, July 23, 2016 from 11am until Noon. Funeral Service will follow at noon. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home of Rocky Top is handling arrangements. The family wishes to express special thanks to Ms. Kathy Roaden of Rocky Top for her care for our dad. We also wish to thank the Soup Kitchen Ministry at Main Street Baptist Church for the many meals and fellowship that they brought to our dad. Finally, we wish to thank Pam Fogerty and the staff at Meadowview Senior Living for caring for him like family in his last months. He truly felt at home and we know he was loved and well taken care of.
