James S. Capps, 65, Clinton, TN passed away Tuesday July 23, 2019 at home with family. He was born December 11, 1953 in Nashville, TN to Charles and Carolyn (Clark) Capps. On August 6, 1983 in Lexington, KY he married Sharon (Thomas) Capps, who survives.

He graduated from Eastern High School in Louisville, KY and continued on to receive his bachelor's degree from Western Kentucky University. He received his master's degree from Lexington Theological Seminary and his Doctor of Ministry from Trinity Theological Seminary.

He served with the Boy Scouts of America for five years before beginning his ministry career. He served many churches in the middle Tennessee area under the Tennessee Conference of the United Methodist Church for 29 years before retiring in 2018.

Including his wife, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sara Keith (Capps) and Mitchell Keith, Johnstown, PA; two grandchildren, Oliver and Addison Keith; two brothers, Stephen (Donna) Capps and Clark (Pam) Capps; a number of nieces and nephews; and his best four-legged buddy, Kodi. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jim was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, pastor, and friend. He was a lover of all music, especially jazz and big band. Most recently in his musical endeavors, he was a member of the musical groups: Bone Therapy, Highland Jazz Machine, and the Oak Ridge Community Band where he played trombone. He greatly enjoyed camping and traveling the world, as well as sharing his great pride in his Tennessee heritage.

Visitation and viewing will be Monday July 29, 2019 from 10am until 2pm at Gladeville United Methodist Church. Service will directly follow at 2pm. Burial will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Reverends Allen Weller and David Grant will be officiating.
