Obituary

James Wilfred Buffington Sr., 67, passed away on November 13, 2025, in Clinton, Tennessee. He was Born on February 3, 1958, in Colebrook, New Hampshire, James lived a life marked by deep connections with family and a warm-hearted spirit that touched many.

James was the beloved husband of Marie Buffington and a devoted father to his children: Tonya Rowe, Michael Buffington, Tabatha Wheeler, James Buffington Jr. (affectionately known as Bubba), Douglas Hudon Sr., and Heather A.H. Buffington. He also held a special place in his heart for his grandson/son, Douglas Hudon Jr., affectionately known as DJ. And also his other four grandchildren Zachary Achilles, Joseph Achilles, Dakota Wheeler, Sandy Wheeler.

Family was at the center of James's world. He is remembered fondly by his sisters Eleanor Ricker and Alberta Flanders, and his brother-in-law Floyd Ricker. His extended family includes cherished nieces and nephews, additional brothers- and sisters-in-law, and many others whom he embraced as family throughout his life.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Leora Buffington; his brothers Robert Buffington and William Buffington; his brother-in-law Jeffrey Flanders; nephews Justin "Beaver" Flanders and Jonathan Flanders; and mother-in-law Deborah Bryant.

Known for his outgoing nature and love of conversation, James never met a stranger. He had a gift for making people feel welcome wherever he went. Fishing was one of his greatest joys—he found peace on the water and treasured the time spent casting lines with those he loved. Above all else, James valued time with family and friends, creating memories that will be cherished for generations. He also loved playing his guitars an loved showing an teaching how to play them also.

May the memory of James Wilfred Buffington Sr. bring comfort to all who knew him and continue to inspire warmth, laughter, and love in their lives. We will not be having any services at this time. because he is getting cremated as he has wanted all his life, but we will be doing a celebration of life in the near future and we will post them on social media. We are thinking about doing it in New Hampshire either during spring or summer. Just make sure you stay in touch with his loved ones.
