Howard Stanton (Stan) Oster Jr went home to be with Jesus on Friday, January 24, 2025.  Stan was born on January 20, 1930 in Wilkes Barre, PA to Howard Stanton Oster Sr & Irene Oster.  The family moved to Ohio where he attended grade school. The family moved to West Virginia where he attended 3 different high schools.  During his 9th grade year the family moved to another town and Stan lived with friends the last 6 months to finish his Latin class.  In his 10th grade class at Burch High School he was elected President of the class after being there only about 6 weeks.  He finished out his high school career graduating from Northfork High school.  His principal at Northfork had attended Duke and got Stan in to Duke.  At the age of 21 he graduated from Duke with a degree in accounting.  After graduating from Duke he moved to Oak Ridge and began his career with the government working for AED-ERDA.  He served as Deputy Director of Finance for the Department of Energy (DOE) in Grand Junction, Colorado from 1963-1966.  He moved back to Knoxville in 1967 and worked for DOE until his retirement in 1985 with the last 10 years serving as the Director of Finance.

Stan was a devoted son, brother, husband, uncle, father, grandfather, friend, mentor and servant of Jesus Christ.  He was an active member of West Haven Baptist Church in Knoxville for about 30 years where he taught various Sunday School and Training Union classes and led the youth group.  He played and coached youth and adult basketball, baseball, & softball.  He played his last game at 65 after 50 years of playing ball.  He later called First Baptist Church Clinton & First Baptist Church Oliver Springs home.

Stan was preceded in death by his wife of 29 years Janice Patricia Weaver Oster, parents Howard & Irene Oster, daughter Tonya Oster and grandson Jacob Slone.  He will be greatly missed by his wife of 31 years Mary Severance Oster, Brother George Oster, Son Stanton Oster (Gina), Daughter Carla Slone (Ricky), Stepsons Patrick Burkhardt, Lee Burkhardt (Estelle), & Daniel Burkhardt. Grandchildren Stanton Oster (Madison), Alexander Oster (Madelyn), Matthew Oster (Lexi), Michael & Timothy Slone, Leanna, Sean & Sarah Burkhardt.  Great Grandchildren Savannah & Stanton Michael Oster.

The family will receive friends 12:00-1:00 pm, Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Holley Gamble Funeral Home.  Stan's Celebration of Life service will follow in the chapel with Rev. Chris Edmonds officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Samaritan's Purse. Holley Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of all arrangements.  holleygamble.com
