Herman Lamar Long, born on May 11, 1943, in Clinton, TN, passed on to his heavenly home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at eighty-two years old, surrounded by his loved ones.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents, Dorsey & Flonnie Long, his loving wife of forty years, Frances Long, son Charles Long, and daughter-in-law Lisa Long. He is also preceded in death by his seven beloved brothers and sisters.
For Herman, his family was his life, and he cherished his role as a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his son Roger Long, daughter Sherri Fowler and her husband Jeff Fowler, and his son Mark Long and his fiancée Shauna Stevenson. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Amanda Fox and her husband, Shawn Fox, Cameron Moore, Brendan Fowler, and his great-grandchildren, Eleanor Fox and Ranger Fox. Herman is also survived by his many nieces and nephews and his special friend Alvin Jones, all of whom he loved dearly.
Herman was a faithful servant of the Lord and was a longtime member and prior deacon at Poplar Creek Baptist Church in Clinton, TN. Herman was a well-respected insurance agent for the American General Life Insurance company for twenty-five years, where he developed a beloved and loyal client base. Long after his retirement, Herman continued to represent clients as he had a passion for helping others and considered many of them his friends. Herman was lauded for his work and was recognized by the Million Dollar Roundtable, one of the highest honors in the life insurance industry.
Outside of work, Herman cherished time spent with friends and family, was an avid fan of the University of Tennessee's athletics program, enjoyed stock car racing, and listened to country and gospel music. One of his life-long passions was to cook for those he loved, and he was known for his generous heart and open table. Herman was loved and very respected by all who knew him and will be deeply missed.
Funeral services will be held at Poplar Creek Baptist Church in Clinton, TN, on Friday, September 19, 2025. The "Receiving of Friends" will begin at 12 pm with a funeral service following. A graveside service will also be held on September 19, 2025, at Grandview Memorial Garden in Clinton, TN, following the funeral.
