Henry Clay King, age 92, of Clinton passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, July 23, surrounded by his devoted wife and family. He was born in Byhalia, Mississippi on December 18, 1917. Henry entered the United States Army in 1936 and spent two years in Panama. He re-enlisted in 1944, serving his country in Europe until 1946. Henry received the following decorations while in the army: American Theatre Service medal, Victory medal, and an Occupation medal while in Germany. Henry retired from TVA as a heavy equipment operator and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Clinton. Henry's interests included history, reading, singing, gardening, and visiting with his family. He was a very compassionate man who enjoyed helping neighbors.

He is preceded in death by his parents (Walter P. and Jenny King), and sisters (Addie Pepper, Nell Bombalaski and Spencer Phillips).

Henry is survived by his loving wife of seventy years, Rosetta King, his two sons and daughters-in-law (Charles and Suzanne King of Clinton and David and Jo Ann King of Oak Ridge), three daughters and sons-in-law (Judith and Tom Dunlap of Virginia Beach, Darlene and Jerry Cooper of Clinton and Joan Cox of Sevierville), eleven grandchildren (Terri Foust, Angela Smith, Stacy King, Clay Hendren, Kimberly Bell, Brian Hendren, Lee Ann Shelton, Shawn Cox, Amy Ammons, Shannon Cox, and Brooke Cooper), twenty-one great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, nephew, (Billy Phillips of Memphis, nieces (Marjorie Phillips of Memphis and Carolyn Potts of Ocala, Florida) and his faithful cat, "Wrow Wrow"

The family wishes to express their thanks to the nurses who cared for him during his illness.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 25, at Bethel Baptist Church in Clinton from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The funeral will follow and be officiated by Reverend Daryl Taylor, Reverent J. C. Newman and Reverend Tom Dunlap. Henry King will be buried at the Cox Cemetery with full military honors by the Campbell County Honor Guard.
