Helen Leon Pyland Longcoy
Helen Pyland Longcoy, 94, of Oak Ridge, Tennessee passed away on Thursday evening, March 24, 2011 at Greenfield of Oak Ridge. Helen was born on September 22, 1916, to Fred and Pearl McClung Pyland in Eldorado, Union, Arkansas.
Her early years were spent in Arkansas, Texas, and Arizona which is where she eventually met and married James Edward Longcoy. After getting married on Oct. 24, 1965 in Winter Haven, Imperial, California, Jim and Helen moved from Phoenix Ariz. to North San Diego County living the next 35 years in Escondido and San Marcos, California. Jim preceded her in death on Aug, 26, 2000. Following Jim's death, Helen made her home with her step-son Larry and wife Gretchen Longcoy, in Derry, NH before moving to Oak Ridge, TN six years ago. Her cats, bingo, astrology, and game shows were passions in her life.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, step-granddaughter Helena Marie Longcoy, husband James Longcoy, sister Dorothy Prochazka, and son Jerry Roberts. She is survived by step-son Larry Longcoy (Gretchen) of Oak Ridge, grandson Alan Longcoy of Smyrna, TN, three grandchildren Lesley Roberts Ezkovich, Cliff Roberts and Brooke Roberts King; six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild all in Louisiana and a sister Betty Joyce Burnham of Michigan.
Private family services will be held at a later date in San Marcos, California where Helen's ashes will be buried with Jim Longcoy.
