Hazel Cunningham Johnson, 89, passed away unexpectedly at NHC of Oak Ridge on October 30, 2024. The beloved matriarch of our family will be missed vehemently. Hazel cared deeply about everyone she met, making friends at every outing. She leaves behind so very many, and her influence on others was often profound.

Hazel graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1957, when she began a 30 year teaching career. Hazel served tirelessly in the Anderson County School District, and taught thousands of students in that time. She was a proud lifelong member of Delta Kappa Gamma.

Hazel married Roy Oliver Johnson June 29, 1957. She remained his devoted wife for 64 years, until he went to be with the Lord on October 18, 2021.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Edwin Cunningham, and his wife Vivian.
She is survived by her son, Roy Steven Johnson and wife Kandi; grandchildren Riley and Sadie; step grandsons Britt and Alex Allen, three great grandchildren; sisters, Betty(Bob) Johnston and Edith Belle(Tommy) Woods; several nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews. The family is also so very grateful for the love and friendships that she forged in her neighborhood.
