Obituary

Harold A. Whitson, of Clinton, 84 years old, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025. Born in Corbin, Kentucky, his family moved to Oak Ridge in 1955. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kettry Earl Whitson, Sr. and Ruth Peace Whitson, as well as his siblings, Raymond L. O'Neal, Walter Whitson, Patricia O'Neal Terrell, and Brenda Kay Edwards. While attending Oak Ridge High School, he played on the 1958 national and state championship football teams. He attended Western Kentucky University on a football scholarship, and the University of Tennessee. Harold served as president of H-S Whitson Construction for twelve years prior to retiring. During retirement, he enjoyed traveling to many areas of the country and exploring new and interesting places. He was a faithful member of the Claxton Church of Christ. He was an avid fisherman who fished many waters ranging from the Everglades to Alaska.

Harold is survived by his wife and fishing partner of 37 years, Cheryl D. Whitson, his son, H. Stephen Whitson (Shannon), daughter Susan Whitson Hodges (Michael), Robin Hann Atkins (Wayne), and Merri Hann Everett (Chad), along with several grandchildren. He also leaves behind siblings, Phil Whitson, Zona Whitson, Ket Whitson, and David Whitson.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 pm on Saturday, February 8, 2025, followed by a service at Holley Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. A graveside service will immediately follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. www.holleygamble.com
