George David Cox, 55 of Oak Ridge, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on June 24, 2011, after a brief illness. He was born on June 24, 1956 in Oak Ridge, TN. He grew up in Lake City, TN and graduated from Lake City High School in 1974 where he was active in and achieved many honors in basketball, baseball and football. Upon graduation, he was recruited by several colleges, including Carson Newman College, to play football. Instead, he chose to go to work and worked for 35 years with Rexnord Corporation in Clinton (formerly PT Components and FMC Corporation) until the time of his passing. He married Kathy Darnell in 1980 at Chapel on the Hill in Oak Ridge. David enjoyed hunting, fishing, UT sports and Braves baseball all of his life, but would rather be on Norris Lake fishing than doing anything else. He was dedicated to his family and was a loving husband and father to two daughters. He enjoyed spending time with his family and beloved beagle Maggie. David was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Central Baptist Church, Oak Ridge.

David was preceded in death by his grandparents Murman and Eva Cox and Clyde and Ruth Pebley; his daughter Amy Lauren Cox; his father-in-law Robert P. Darnell and his stepfather-in-law John E. Hamby.

David is survived by his wife Kathy; wonderful daughter Katie and future son-in-law Clay Warren. In addition, he leaves his father, Billy George (Babe) Cox of Lake City; his mother and stepfather, Geraldine and Bill Brown of Clinton; aunts Helen Pebley and Joyce Templin, Lake City, Kay Harness, Clinton; uncles and aunts, Jake and Sandy Cox, Lake City, Betty Aud, Powell, Roger and Shirley Cox, Mickey and Lester Fox, Jean and Tony Aloi and Brenda Letner, Clinton; stepsister and family, Gina, Randy and Sandy Collins of Lawrenceville, GA; cousins, Tim (whom he considered a brother) and Katie Aloi, Mike and Debby Aloi, Sherry and Randy Hudson, Jeffrey and Suzanne Letner, Lynn and Becky Cox, Daryl and Glenda Cox, Bruce and Mary Jane Fox, Terry Fox, Todd and Melissa Fox, Shanda and Perry Queener, Leisa and Terry Hope, Mike and Rosie Templin, Skipper, Kerry and Patrick Templin, Lori Noonan, Cindy Knott, Kelly Wilson, Jim and Madelyn Robbins, Larry and Sherry Robbins, and Brian and Lisa Hall. Also survived by mother-in-law, Frances Darnell-Hamby; brothers- and sisters-in-law Belinda and Greg Redmond, Robert Darnell and Veronica Garza, Diane and Jim Qualls; nieces and nephews Matthew Darnell and Sondra Wright, Richie and Sharon Dowdy, James and Sarah Redmond, Jenny and Tyler Hughett, Jamie, Matthew and Daniel Qualls, Emily and Nick Darnell, Ethan and Caleb Garza and special friends and family Kim Norstedt, Marilyn Darnell, Elaine and Eddie Warren and all the special people David worked with at Rexnord and the former plants in Clinton.

The family will receive friends on Monday, June 27th from 6-8PM at the Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. Funeral to be held on Tuesday, June 28th in the chapel of the funeral home at 1:00PM with Dr. Bobby Mullins officiating. Graveside services will follow at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton.
