On April 25, 2011 my earthly father, Frank Shetterly, age 97 left me to go to our Heavenly Father. My mother, Lula Bernice Brown Shetterly left us on February 15, 2003. She and daddy had been married for 70 years. My name is Wanda Lou Shetterly Abner. I am their only child. During the past couple of years, Daddy looked to my husband, Charles H. Abner to help take him wherever he needed to go.

Daddy is preceded by his father and mother, John Henry and Ida Marie Scarbrough Shetterly; his brothers, Clifton, Jimmy, Clarence & Reo Shetterly; half-sister, Ethel Scarbrough; half-brothers, Jesse & William Scarbrough and William's twin who was unnamed. Daddy is the last of that generation.

While here, Daddy worked hard. He worked at Y-12 when it first started, he had a dairy farm business, ran a grocery store and built houses. His last job was in bulldozing. Most of the houses the government built in Oak Ridge, he dug basements under about 85% of them. Many people knew mother and daddy, especially Daddy because he helped so many in need. He gave away more than anyone could imagine.

While his grandson, Byron Abner, was away in Afghanistan he asked about him just about every day. He and Byron had something in common. Both loved to farm and during WWII Daddy tried to join the military, but failed because of his hearing. Daddy was also proud of his granddaughter, Dolores Padgett of Knoxville. He was always glad to have her visit. He looked forward to her cooking the Thanksgiving-Christmas dinner. He has another grandson, Steven Abner of Clinton and five great-grandchildren: Jennifer Lynn Padgett, Elihugh, Ethan, James & Grace Abner and also leaves a special friend, Faye Adkins..

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 from 6-8PM at the Holley-Gamble Funeral Home with funeral service to follow at 8:00PM with Rev. Stan Elliott officiating. Graveside services will be Wednesday, April 27th at 11:00AM at Sunset Cemetery with Dr. Steve McDonald officiating.
