Eugenia “Jean” Lee Sexton (Thornton) Webster

Jean, Eugenia, Aunt Jean, or Grandjean as she was known to family and friends, died July 29, 2026, at 93 years young. She was born in Greenwood, S.C., to Rev. C.J. and Obera Kay Sexton. She had been a Clinton-area resident since 1974 and a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Clinton.

In her earlier years, she and her husband, Bruce, enjoyed traveling and playing golf. After his death, she learned how to play piano and swim even as she was in her late 60's! She always had a young spirit, a measureless love for people, and a visible joy that came from the Lord! Even as her health declined, she still wanted to serve and began sewing wheelchair caddies, donating over 900 to local charities and individuals.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bruce Howard Webster; brothers, Charles Sexton and Carl Sexton; sisters, Doris Bolt, Mildred Reece, and Elizabeth Crumpton; stepsons, Lester and Charles Webster; step-grandsons, Lester Webster Jr. and James Robinson; and great-granddaughter, Taylor Reed.

Jean is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Steve Ledford of Racine, Wis.; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Amy Thornton of Suwanee, Ga.; daughter-in-law, Janet Webster of Oliver Springs; stepdaughter, Dianne May of Oak Ridge; grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Erin Edgley, Christopher Thornton, Isaac Ledford, Laura Ballinger, Donna Reed, Dawn Lane, Carrie Greene, Kelly Ogle, Jennifer Pickwell, Melissa Lee, and Ben, Sam, and Nick Kelly; great-grandchildren, Ethan Edgley, Zelda, Torin, and Saria Ledford, Lester and Leslie Webster, Michael Reed, Cody and Krista Lane, Dalton and Emma Greene, Alexander Ogle, Elsie and Hensley Pickwell, Ayla Garner, and James Robinson; and niece, Janet O’Bryan, who was her caregiver for the last six years, as well as several other nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to come to a receiving of friends from 11:00-12:00, Saturday, August 1, 2026, at First Baptist Church, 225 N Main St, Clinton, TN 37716, to enjoy sharing memories of Eugenia. At 12:00, Rev. Danny Chisholm of First Baptist Church of Clinton will officiate a celebration of life service. Graveside services will be at Sunset Cemetery at a later date to be announced.
