Emily Bim Russell Buchanan, age 89 of Andersonville, passed away February 27, 2014, at Wellspring Assisted Living in Knoxville. She was born December 26, 1924. Known to her friends and family as Bim, she was a member of Andersonville United Methodist Church. She grew up in New Tazewell where she helped in the family business, Russell Brother's Warehouse, and later owned and operated Buchanan Florist. A devoted wife and mother, she served as the secretary to her husband, preparing church bulletins and being his helpmate as he served several Methodist churches in Holston Conference. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Rev. George L. Buchanan; parents, Garfield Russell and Jane Bolinger Russell; brothers, Lawrence Russell, Claude Russell, and Wayne Russell; sisters, Credie May Russell, Mable Mountain, and Madge Runion.
She is survived by daughters, Jane Hunley and husband Steven of Powell, Wylene Campbell and husband Eddie of Andersonville; grandchildren, Joseph Payne and wife Nina of Jefferson City, Kelly Briggs-Waldrop and husband Robert Briggs of West Chester, Ohio, Gregory Campbell and wife Ann of Andersonville, Jennifer Harshbarger and husband Jeffrey of Norris; great grandchildren, Russell Payne, Nora and Bonnie Waldrop, Paul Briggs, Samantha, Sydney and Ian Campbell, Nicholas and Eddie Dean Harshbarger, and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 1st, from 5-7 PM at Andersonville United Methodist Church. Funeral service will follow with Rev. Ken Abbott and Rev. Ralph Horak officiating. The interment will be Sunday, March 2nd, at 2:00PM at Fairview Cemetery in New Tazewell. Pallbearers will be Greg Campbell, Joe Payne, Rob Briggs, Jeff Harshbarger, Ed Myer and Mark Irwin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Andersonville United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund, 3944 Andersonville Hwy, Andersonville, TN 37705.
