Elizabeth Mitchell Longmire, age 85 of Powell, passed away on Saturday, August 30,2014. Elizabeth was born in Loyston, Tennessee and, as a toddler, she and her family relocated to Clinton, Tennessee as a result of being displaced by the TVA construction of Norris Dam in the early 1930s. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother and was very active in her church which she was a member of for over 50 years. Elizabeth had a wonderful sense of humor which charmed everyone she met. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alonzo and Leona Mitchell; brothers Kenneth Mitchell, Edwin Mitchell, and Bobby Mitchell; sister-in-law Virginia Mitchell; and her husband of 40 years, Hubert "Bert" Longmire.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Tammie Longmire; son and daughter-in-law Mark and Brenda Longmire of Oak Ridge; grandson Nicholas Longmire of Knoxville; granddaughter Ashley Longmire of Murfreesboro; granddaughters Anna Longmire and Sarah Longmire of Knoxville; sister-in-law Edith Mitchell of Dickson; sister-in-law Reba Brown of Nashville; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Norwood United Methodist Church, 2110 Merchant Drive, Knoxville. Funeral service will begin at 7pm with Pastor Bob Ruth officiating. Friends and family will meet at 10:00 am, Friday at Holley Gamble Funeral Home and go in procession to Sinking Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery for at 10:30 am graveside.
