Elizabeth Aileen Lay Portwood, age 83 of Clinton, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at Methodist Medical Center. She was a friendly and caring woman that always helped others. She will be missed by all that knew her. She and her husband, the late J.B. Portwood, owned and operated Portwood Cleaners for 33 years. Prior to that, she was a supervisor with Southern Bell Telephone.
Preceded in death by husband, J.B.; parents, H.L. & Gypsy Lay; father and mother-in-law, Arthur & Minnie Portwood; brothers-in-law, Charles, Wayne, & Jack Portwood, & Kenneth Fraker.
She is survived by son, Steve Portwood; daughter, Teresa Portwood; special granddaughter, Magan Stout of Knoxville; grandsons, Cameron & Ryan Portwood of Ohio; sisters, Judy Melton and husband Clifton, Norma Fraker & husband Alfred and Hazel Fraker, all of Clinton; brother-in-law, Earl Portwood & wife Marilyn; sister-in-law, Maxine Portwood all of Clinton; many nieces, nephews and cherished friends. Pallbearers, Leamon Woods, Devon Portwood, Cameron Portwood, Ryan Portwood, Alfred Fraker and Clifton Melton. Honor pallbearers, Joe Williams and Ronnie Adkins.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 12, 2012 from 6-8PM at the Holley-Gamble Funeral Home. Funeral services to follow at 8:00PM with Rev. Clayton Duncan officiating.
