Jernigan, Elizabeth (Betty) - age 89 of Norris passed away suddenly at her home Thursday, December 16, 2010 after a fall. Born in Pennsylvania, Betty married Richard Parvin Jernigan in 1942 in Washington DC. They reared five children and spent 21 years living in Norris before moving to Oak Ridge. When Richard died in 2006, Betty moved back to Norris. Betty's interests and energy appeared to be limitless. While her children were sill quite young, she earned her bachelor's and master's degrees, became an elementary school teacher, and then an elementary school guidance counselor. She was actively involved in many social, charitable and political organizations. A long-time member of the Norris Religious Fellowship church, Betty continued to participate in numerous church and community activities. In addition to Richard, she was preceded in death by a son, Patrick, a sister, Barbara Caroon, and a brother, Clark Paddock. She is survived by her sister Phoebe Spence of Hollywood, CA; her children, Dorothy Lambert of Nashville; Richard Jernigan of Clinton, Kathy Jernigan Kuperstock of Nashville; Barbara Jernigan of Nashville; son-in-law, Warren Lambert; daughter-in-law, Laura Jernigan; son-in-law, Stuart Kuperstock, and four grandchildren. Betty's dedication to her family, church and community and her wry humor will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 26th at 2 p.m. at the Norris Religious Fellowship Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of choice. www.holleygamblefh.com
