Edward "Ed" Moore Underwood of Clinton passed away July 30, 2011 after a prolonged illness at home with his family as he wanted. He was born January 7, 1928 in Clinton to the late Claude & Edna Lee Underwood. Ed attended Milligan College where he played tight end for football team before entering into the Navy. He was a veteran of both WWII and Korea. Ed worked at the nuclear plants in Oak Ridge and then at the Clinton Housing Authority prior to becoming owner/manager of Clinton Supply and Hardware for 25 years. After closing the hardware, he worked for the Anderson County Schools. He believed in duty to the community and spent time as a Volunteer Fire Fighter for Clinton, Clinton Chamber of Commerce President, Alderman of Clinton, Jaycee Man of the year, and past member of the Lions Club. Ed recently retired after 50+ years as a volunteer and later as the president of the Anderson County Fair. In 2001, he served as the TN State Fair President where he had the privilege to visit fairs throughout the state. He was a 50 year member in the Masons-Alfa Lodge of Clinton and a member of the Clinch Valley Shrine Club where he served in the Kerbela Patrol. Ed was a member of Memorial Methodist Church beginning in 1936.
He is survived by wife of 61 years, Nadine Underwood; children, Bill Underwood of New Jersey, Frank Underwood of Kingsport and grandson Jordan Underwood of Bristol, Vickie Underwood of Clinton; sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Helen & John Fetzer; special cousins, Pat Wright, Sam McCracken, Jim (Ginny) Robertson, Bill (Joyce) Robertson, Jon (Linda) Robertson, Mary Francis Underwood and Bill Underwood; a multitude of cousins from all generations, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and good friends.
The family would like to thank Covenant Health Hospice staff, Sandi from ResCare and the wonderful people who provided care during the last few months including Linda Mayle, Maynard Brown (Jr,), Betty Stout, Louise Howard and Linda Crowley.

In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to Shrine Hospital for Children, C/O Kerbela Temple Knoxville, 315 Mimosa Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37920; St. Jude Hospital for Children, Memphis, TN or the Charity of Choice.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 6, 2011 from 1-3PM at the Holley-Gamble Funeral Home. Masonic Service to being at 3:00PM with the memorial service to follow with Pastor Don Thomas and Chaplain Tom Rayford officiate. Graveside services will follow at Sunset Cemetery with full military honors by the Campbell County Honor Guard.
