Edith A. Wilson, of Clinton, passed away at Golden Living Center on September 16, 2011. She was born June 2, 1916. She was a lifelong member of St. Mark United Methodist Church where she was passed historian. She was very proud of a memorial wall she had been responsible in creating at the church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe G. Wilson; brother, Edward G. Wilson and wife, Hazel Wilson Smith.
Miss Wilson, a graduate of Knoxville Business College, began working in Oak Ridge during the early days, and had a most interesting career. In the beginning she was with Tennessee Eastman Corporation. Later she transferred to Manhattan Engineers at X-10. For a year of this period she was associated with Admiral H.G. Rickover and his group who were in Oak Ridge doing ground work for the atomic powered submarine. Her next move was to Oak Ridge Institute of Nuclear Studies, now ORAU, Special Training Division where she came in contact with scientists from all over the world. An interesting staff member here was a Hungarian scientist who had worked with Madame Curie in Paris before emigrating to America. Miss Wilson ended her career with WATO Radio as advertising copywriter and continuity director.
An avid reader, Miss Wilson was very interested in Clinton Library, where she sometimes volunteered. She also enjoyed writing, both prose and poetry, and had some of her work published.
Survivors include her cousin and care-giver, Morris and wife Roberta Campbell of Clinton and several other cousins and close friends.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Golden Living Center's staff for providing such devoted and loving care to Miss Wilson.
The family will receive friends Monday, September 19th, from 11:30-1:00PM at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton.
